Happy Birthday, Early Check! One year ago this month, Early Check transitioned to screening babies for hundreds of serious health conditions using genome sequencing. To date, we've screened over 2000 babies using genome sequencing.

Who is Eligible for Early Check?

Who is Eligible for Early Check?

You can join Early Check if:

your baby is less than one month old and

your baby was born in North Carolina.

Taking part in Early Check is up to you.

Each family that takes part in the study moves us one step closer to finding better ways to identify health conditions early, establish treatments, and identify support services for babies and families affected by these serious health conditions.

Non-birthing parents may be able to sign up for Early Check.

  • Early Check identifies a newborn’s blood sample for screening using the birth mother/birthing parent's information. If you are the mother/birthing parent, you need to sign up, but we ask both parents to decide.
  • If you are the legal guardian, and the mother/birthing parent does not or will not have custody of the baby, contact us so we can answer questions or help you sign up.
